TEATRO REGIO DI PARMA

The elegance of the stuccoes, the harmony of the proportions, the perfect acoustics, the prestigious history, along with the greatness of the artists who have graced its stage, make the Teatro Regio di Parma one of the most recognized and celebrated opera houses in the world. Commissioned by Duchess Maria Luigia of Austria and originally named the New Ducal Theatre, the Teatro Regio was inaugurated on May 16, 1829, with Zaira, an opera composed for the occasion by Vincenzo Bellini.

The Verdi Festival, awarded in 2017 as the “Best Festival” at the International Opera Awards, is the cornerstone of the programmatic action of the Fondazione Teatro Regio di Parma, where the greatest production effort and media exposure are concentrated, offering an increasingly international audience a rich calendar of operas, concerts, and events dedicated to the Maestro.

The Season unfolds throughout the year, intertwining the events of the Opera Season—which traditionally punctuates the city’s theatrical life and includes works from the great repertoire alongside rarer titles—with the Concert Season, featuring internationally renowned soloists and ensembles, ParmaDanza, hosting internationally acclaimed stars and companies, and RegioYoung, a true theatrical season for schools and families, with targeted proposals for children, teenagers, students, and teachers, all linked by the thread of musical theater, with workshops and preparatory sessions for performances and a new opera production commissioned each year to a composer and a creative team of international fame. Recognized as a training institution by the Emilia Romagna Region, in 2017 the Teatro Regio di Parma established the Accademia Verdiana, offering selected young opera singers the opportunity to attend a free advanced course in the Verdian repertoire, supported by the Emilia Romagna Region and the European Social Fund (Operation Ref. PA 2018-9806/RER approved by Regional Council Resolution n.1208/2018 co-financed by the European Social Fund PO 2014-2020 Emilia-Romagna Region).
