NEW PRODUCTION
With La Traviata performed in the context of the Modena for Luciano events and the Modena City of Belcanto program, the project continues to present the operas interpreted by Luciano Pavarotti in order of debut. Stefano Monti, an internationally renowned director already appreciated in Modena on numerous occasions, conceived the opera by adapting it to a new scenic space that places the action in the theater’s audience. In the role once held by Luciano Pavarotti, tenor Matteo Lippi, a student of Mirella Freni who has achieved international success.
Inspired by the novel The Lady of the Camellias by Alexandre Dumas fils, it tells the tragic fate of the Parisian courtesan Violetta Valéry. During a party at the young woman’s house, she meets the bourgeois Alfredo. Happiness is soon interrupted when Violetta is forced to sacrifice her love to safeguard the good name of her beloved’s family.

MUNICIPAL THEATER OF MODENA
The Municipal Theater of Modena was inaugurated in 1841 under the name Theater of the Illustrious Community. Throughout its history, it has preserved its beauty intact and has not undergone any significant structural transformation. As it stands today, the Theater, is the result of a thorough historical-conservative restoration that restored it to its original splendor and adjusted to all modern safety standards.
